Visits to outdoor sites around Abu Dhabi rose sharply in the first ten days of July, with kayak rentals at the Eastern Mangroves up 22 percent from the same period last year.
The increase comes as families look for short, local escapes during school holidays that began on 2 July, when daytime temperatures still climb past 42 degrees but dawn conditions allow two-hour outings before 9 a.m.
Two locations dominate bookings. The Eastern Mangroves Promenade, reached via the Al Maryah Island bridge, offers guided paddles through 1.5 kilometres of channels where herons nest. On the opposite side of the emirate, the Jebel Hafeet road in Al Ain starts at the Al Ain Oasis parking area and climbs 1,200 metres to the summit viewpoint, a route maintained by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.
Operators at the Eastern Mangroves charge 120 AED for a two-hour kayak session that includes life jackets and a safety briefing. Jebel Hafeet trail users pay 25 AED for parking at the lower lot; the drive itself takes 25 minutes from central Al Ain. Both sites open at 6 a.m. daily through the summer schedule set by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Slots for next week are already filling on the Abu Dhabi Tourism app, which lists availability in real time. Participants are advised to arrive by 5:45 a.m., carry at least one litre of water per person, and check the 6 a.m. temperature reading posted on the same app before leaving home.
