Abu Dhabi Launches New Heritage Tours and Mangrove Kayaking Experiences This Summer

Abu Dhabi's tourism sector is rolling out a slate of new local tours and experiences this July, with at least six operators launching or reviving programs aimed at residents and visitors alike.
The timing is no accident. As global headlines remain dominated by typhoons in China, wildfires in Spain and rising geopolitical tensions in the Gulf, travelers are increasingly seeking out familiar, safe and culturally rich destinations close to home. For Abu Dhabi, that means doubling down on hyper-local experiences that showcase the emirate's heritage and natural wonders.
New Heritage and Nature Tours
Among the most anticipated launches is the 'Al Ain Oasis Heritage Walk,' a guided two-hour tour through the 1,200-year-old falaj irrigation system at Al Ain Oasis. Operated by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, the tour costs 75 dirhams per person and runs every Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through September. The route includes stops at the restored Al Jahili Fort and the Al Qattara Arts Centre.
On the coast, Kayak Abu Dhabi has introduced a 'Mangrove Moonlight Paddle' that departs from the Eastern Mangrove Lagoon near Al Reem Island. The 90-minute guided tour, priced at 150 dirhams, uses LED-lit kayaks and is offered on evenings with a full moon. The next scheduled paddle is July 21.
Practical Advice and Booking Details
For those short on time, the 'Abu Dhabi City Tour Express' launched by Big Bus Tours on July 1 offers a 90-minute hop-on, hop-off circuit covering 12 stops including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. A one-day ticket costs 120 dirhams for adults and 60 dirhams for children. The tour runs every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to data from the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, domestic tourism visits to cultural sites in the emirate increased 22% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year. The department reports that guided tour bookings specifically rose 35% between April and June.
All tours require advance online booking through the respective operator websites or the Visit Abu Dhabi app. Masks are recommended but not mandatory for indoor portions of the heritage tours, and kayak participants must wear life jackets provided by the operator. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult on all listed tours.
