Evidence Supporting Abu Dhabi's Structured Preventive Health Screening
Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre guidelines outline age-specific intervals and targeted tests to support ongoing wellness.
How we reported this
The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has issued the official Abu Dhabi Public and Preventive Health System to serve as a cornerstone for a healthy society. This framework establishes clear protocols for screenings and preventive actions that residents can follow through existing public health channels.
Updates to the IFHAS Screening Initiative
The IFHAS program operates as Abu Dhabi's comprehensive health screening initiative for Thiqa cardholders aged 18 to 75. In 2025 the program added Memory Testing for those aged 50 and older, Reproductive Health Screening for ages 20 to 35, and anxiety assessments. These additions align with the broader goal of addressing multiple health areas within one coordinated system.
Recommended Screening Intervals and Conditions
Residents receive advice to undergo regular screening for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease and cancer. General screenings are set at three-year intervals for adults aged 18 and older who have no pre-existing conditions. Checkup frequency changes with age: children and adolescents from birth to 18 years are scheduled every six to 12 months, adults aged 19 to 30 are advised annually, those aged 31 to 50 receive checks every two years, and individuals aged 51 and older are directed to attend twice each year.
Additional Preventive Measures
Key preventive steps include annual dental visits, HPV vaccination for cervical cancer prevention, measles immunisation for children aged 1 to 5, and the use of fluoride toothpaste to reduce tooth decay. These measures are presented alongside the screening schedule to cover both detection and daily habits that support long-term health.
Information on the IFHAS program and related guidelines is available through the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre website and participating health facilities. Individuals are encouraged to consult a medical professional to determine the schedule that matches their personal health profile and Thiqa status.
