Membership across Abu Dhabi running clubs rose 28 percent between January and June this year, according to figures from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The increase comes as residents seek regular outdoor activity after months of indoor training during the hotter spring period. Local clubs have responded by adding midweek sessions and expanding routes that link residential areas to public parks.
The Abu Dhabi Striders hold their main Saturday run from the Corniche near the Hilton Abu Dhabi, covering 5 km and 10 km loops before finishing at Al Maryah Island. Another group, the Yas Island Joggers, meets every Tuesday evening at Yas Beach and follows paths around the Ferrari World perimeter. Both clubs maintain WhatsApp groups that coordinate car shares from Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City.
Club organisers have also introduced beginner programmes that pair new runners with experienced members for the first six weeks. These sessions start at 6:30 a.m. to avoid peak heat and end with group breakfasts at nearby cafés on Saadiyat Island.
Entry fees for the clubs’ monthly social 10 km event stand at 75 AED, with proceeds supporting equipment for school running teams in Al Ain. The next organised run takes place on 18 July at 5:45 a.m. starting from Zayed Sports City Stadium, followed by a recovery session at the on-site gym.
Residents can register through the clubs’ websites or at the information desk inside the Abu Dhabi Mall sports store. New members receive a reflective vest and access to the shared training calendar.
