Abu Dhabi Sports Council opened its summer registration window on July 1 for team sports and fitness classes that run through September at multiple public facilities.

Participation in organized local sports has risen steadily since the council expanded its community outreach last year, drawing in office workers and families who previously used only hotel gyms or informal beach runs along the Corniche.

Key Venues and Entry Points

Newcomers can begin at Zayed Sports City in Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, where the council runs weekly football and basketball sessions for adults on Monday and Wednesday evenings, or head to Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island for beginner cycling groups that meet every Saturday morning at 6 a.m. Both sites accept online sign-ups through the council portal and require only a valid Emirates ID plus a basic medical declaration form.

Equipment needs remain straightforward. Football players supply their own boots and shin guards while the council provides bibs and balls; cyclists must bring a helmet and a roadworthy bike but can borrow water bottles at the Yas circuit check-in desk.

Costs, Schedules and Practical Steps

Fees for the current season stand at 250 AED per person for an eight-week football block and 180 AED for the cycling series, with discounts available for students and seniors who show proof at the Al Bateen Sports Club office near the corniche. Data released by the council in June showed 12,400 active participants across its programs in 2025, up from 9,800 the prior year.

Prospective players should complete the online form by July 18 to secure a spot before groups fill, then attend an orientation session listed on the confirmation email. Those who miss the deadline can still join drop-in sessions at the same venues on a pay-per-day basis of 30 AED.
