Abu Dhabi residents booked more than 4,200 guided outdoor sessions in the first week of July 2026, according to Environment Agency Abu Dhabi records released on 10 July.
The spike comes as daytime highs reached 43 degrees Celsius on 9 July, pushing people toward shaded water routes and elevated trails that open before 7 a.m. City planners have promoted these options since the 2025 launch of the Abu Dhabi Outdoor Wellness Programme, which added lighting and water stations along several routes.
At the Eastern Mangroves Promenade, two-hour kayak tours depart from the pontoon near the Ritz-Carlton every morning at 6 a.m. Participants paddle through 1.8 kilometres of channels where herons nest. The same operator runs a 45-minute stand-up paddle session along the promenade at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays for AED 95. Both activities fall under the agency’s mangrove protection rules that limit group size to eight people.
Further west, the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve opened an additional 3-kilometre boardwalk loop on 1 June. Rangers now lead 90-minute bird-watching walks at 6:15 a.m. on Saturdays for AED 60. The reserve recorded 1,850 visitors during the first six days of July, up from 1,200 in the same period last year.
In Al Ain, the Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road offers a 3.2-kilometre marked hiking path that starts at the Green Mubazzarah park entrance. The route gains 180 metres in elevation and finishes at a viewpoint used by the Al Ain Camel Racing Club for training sessions. A local operator, Al Ain Adventures, runs sunrise walks on Tuesdays and Thursdays for AED 110, including transport from the Al Ain Oasis car park.
Visit Abu Dhabi data show that outdoor bookings across these sites rose 22 percent between 1 and 10 July compared with June. Most participants choose the 6 a.m. slots to finish before the heat index exceeds 50 degrees.
Those planning a trip should check the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi app for same-day cancellations and carry at least one litre of water per person. Slots at both the Eastern Mangroves and Jebel Hafeet fill by 4 p.m. the previous day during peak summer weeks.
